Widely circulated footage seemed to capture Jones making an obscene gesture at Jets fans, but Jones maintains he was actually giving a thumbs-up to Dallas supporters in attendance as his team clinched a decisive win.
“It was regrettable. It was essentially an exchange with our fans out in front of us,” Jones stated during a radio appearance. “Present was a large group of Dallas supporters—not Jets fans, our fans. The whole venue was brimming with excitement for the Cowboys.”
He further clarified that the gesture was completely accidental, occurring amid the elation following the team’s final touchdown. “I simply showed the wrong digit,” he remarked. “It was inadvertently performed. This is sincere. If you want to call it accidental, you can. But it got corrected pretty quick.”

This is not the initial instance an league proprietor has been fined for inappropriate behavior. Previous examples include:
